Simple Ways to Protect Your Energy

Let’s start with a basic overview of your energy. I’m speaking beyond your physical energy – “I slept well last night!” or “I slept terribly - I’m so tired!” – and instead speaking to your life force energy, the reason you took your first breath when you woke up, your joie de vivre… you get it!
In simple terms, consider that your energetic body has two primary parts: your auric field and chakra column.

What Is Your Aura and Why Does It Need Protection?

You can imagine our auric field as a bubble surrounding your entire body. As we go about our day-to-day, our auras help protect us from energetic exchanges (known and unknown, positive and negative). During a highly energetic exchange time, like the holidays or being in crowds, your aura may pick up stuff it doesn’t really want. These aura-passengers are like lint or dog hair on a sweater – but with bigger implications. These energetic tagalongs can leave you feeling drained, less than your best, or just off your game.

Also, it’s similar to your physical body in that it can only withstand so much “wear and tear” or usage throughout any given period of time. For example, when I do energy healings with clients, I’ve seen auras with full-on attachments (unwanted spirits, holes, dents, thinning veils, etc). Just like your physical body, your auric body needs to be cleansed and needs time to recuperate.

Understanding Your Chakra System for Energetic Balance

Your chakra column consists of 7 energy centers. I like to think of them as spinning disks that are tied to all areas of your life (mind, body, and spirit). When they are aligned and balanced, we feel aligned and balanced. Something as simple as an off-handed remark from a loved one could knock one off balance, and in turn, we get knocked off energetically in some way.

A client recently asked me: “Is there anything you do on a daily basis to protect your energy?” So, without further ado, here are my go-to daily energy protection tips:

1. Wear Jewelry That Protects and Connects

Every day, I wear two bracelets. One is made up of black tourmaline beads, and the other of rainbow moonstone beads. The black tourmaline is a stone for protection, and the rainbow moonstone helps connect me intuitively. I also wear two silver necklaces: one with an evil eye to ward off negative energy and one with a scarab amulet (one of my protectors from the insect realm).

REMEMBER: Gold = masculine. Silver = feminine. If you want more or less of either type in your life, try switching up your style.

2. Carry Protective Crystals or Talismans

Some crystals that may be helpful to carry with you during this time are black tourmaline, clear quartz, and rose quartz. The black tourmaline helps to ward off any negative energy. The clear quartz helps to amplify the black tourmaline and make it an even stronger protector. The rose quartz is a lovely stone that enables you to give and receive love. If you don’t have these crystals, that’s ok! Hold the crystal or talisman and set an intention with it.

Ladies, keep in mind: crystals love to go for ride-alongs in your bra!

3. Know Your Energy Type and Honor It

This won’t come as a surprise to many of you but a key part of how I protect my energy is by being a student of my self. I love to know why I am the way that I am, my preferences and keep an eye on my trending thoughts. One of the ways I do this is with Human Design. As a Projector, I have strategically realigned my life and my business to match my energy.

4. Unplug Energetic Cords at the End of the Day

When you and I have an exchange, my energetic cord plugs into your auric energy, and your energetic cord plugs into mine. At the end of every day, I imagine pulling back all of my energetic cords (the ones I know about and the ones I don’t), and I unplug all of the energetic cords I received. Once I’m done, I send loving energy to both myself and the other cords to fill the now-open spaces.

(Please note: If you’ve recently had a cord cutting ceremony, be mindful to fill the gaps of the cords.)

5. Make a Plan to Protect Your Energy Before Social Events

Have a plan before you set out for the day, for someone’s home or if you’re having guests in your home. Make sure that you know what time they are arriving and or what time you will be leaving, and make sure that you honor that boundary. If you are going with a significant other or spouse, ensure you are on the same page about when you’ll be leaving.

6. Choose Mocktails Over Cocktails for Energy Preservation

Alcohol is a spirit that extracts your essence and affects your soul. Here’s another way to look at alcohol: alcohol extracts. Have you ever used vanilla extract? When you add alcohol to vanilla, it extracts the vanilla essence. So, when you add alcohol to your body, it extracts your essence… also known as your soul.

It’s why alcohol slows you down mentally, physically, and spiritually — and why your energy may feel off after drinking.

7. Ground Yourself in Nature or Through Visualization

I try to get outside and get my bare feet on the ground, preferably grass or sand, every day. This is way easier now that we’re living in California. If you’re somewhere where you can’t access the ground, you can do a short visualization of walking through the grass or consider purchasing a grounding mat. We love our products from Higher Dose.

8. Practice Gentle Energy Clearing with Breath and Light

Start by bringing your attention to your breath. You don’t have to change the pace of your breath; simply watch your inhales and exhales happen. This helps to calm your mind and prepare you for the clearing process. Visualize a ball of white, light, clearing energy just above the crown of your head. Move this light throughout your aura and all the way down to the space around the tips of your toes.

This process can help clear any negative energy that you may have accumulated throughout the day.

Why Energy Protection Matters for Intuitive Leaders

It’s important to note that this process can take as little or as long as you like. Some people prefer to take their time, while others may only spend a few minutes. The key is to make it a part of your daily evening routine to continue to clear your energy body and promote better sleep and overall well-being.

By taking a few minutes each night to clear your energy, you may sleep better, have more energy during the day, and feel more balanced and grounded overall.

As an intuitive leader, protecting your energy isn’t just “woo woo” or another item on your to-do list – it is the essential action that creates ease, flow, and allows for manifestation in your world. Don’t rawdog your energy – make sure you’re protected 😉
